Next Steps…

After gutting the bathroom, Mike installed mold resistant drywall, hardibacker in the shower area, new pipes, and a schuluter kurdi shower system. Then I helped him out by painting the bathroom before anything else was installed. The final part of this step was laying the tile on the floor, and setting up the vanity and granite top.

bathroom april 28 018 After several searches for tile we finally found one we liked. One Saturday I was outside and Mike was working in the bathroom, he called me in to say he had just started laying tile and to come check it out. I came inside and hated it! It didn’t look good with the paint – it was too dark. So, Mike pulled it up and we were back to square one. Thankfully, we had another sample in the house that originally we had thought was too light. We tried it again in the bathroom and this time loved it. So, we returned all the first batch of tile to Lowes and bought the next batch. We installed Capri Classic.bathroom april 28 019 bathroom april 28 024 bathroom april 28 001bathroom april 28 028

After lots of searching for vanities we couldn’t find any we liked that were solidly built. So, being the handyman he is, Mike designed, built, and stained our vanity. (He still needs to the doors and drawers…)

bathroom 2012 017 Always search around for countertops! Mike decided to stop at a stone store off the freeway on his way home from work. Stone Solutions informed him they always will beat the price of a big box store. After looking around in the remnant pile we got lucky! There was a remnant with two sink holes the exact size we were looking for! Being a remnant piece Stone Solutions was trying to get rid of it and we got it for about 75% off of its value!
