NASCAR and Paint

Last weekend we started small and got places fast! Mike and his buddy Scott painted our living room “Ponytail” and what a difference does it make! I love it! The room no longer feels like a stark, institutional room. It is warm and cozy!

Our friends Sarah and Brian generously gave us four NASCAR tickets for this past weekend. As a reward for painting we took along Scott and his wife, Katie. NASCAR is an interesting experience to say the least and I’m eternally grateful for earplugs. I’ve never heard anything so loud in my life! It was really cool to see the cars take off and do the first couple laps – then it got boring (for me)… I don’t really see the intrigue in watching cars go around laps 300 times. We left at about lap 170. I’m glad I’ve had the experience.

New at This…

Mike and I are new at blogging. We thought we’d give it a shot since we will be doing many renovations in the months to come. Forgive us a perhaps boring blog! Mostly, we wanted to keep track of the projects we start and finish in our new home. Currently we have several projects going on at once.

Project #1: Ceilings

We are waiting to finish unpacking until our ceilings our finished. We had gorgeous popcorn ceiling that we are getting rid of! Our friend Steve has been scraping and texturing our ceilings in a Spanish style.

Project #2: Curtains

In the master bedroom there is a large sliding door which lets in an incredible amount of light. This is awesome but makes it difficult to sleep past 7. Notice our first curtain below. Nice isn’t it?

I knew if we didn’t get curtains soon it would stay blanketed for a long time. So, the other day we made the trip to World Market and Bed Bath and Beyond and came home with these:

Project #3: Getting rid of rotting fence

In the backyard there is a rotting fence that Mike helped to fall over. Mike and his dad brought it to the dump. We are debating what to do in the future as the block wall the neighbor built was not finished properly on our side. We aren’t able to do anything to the block wall as it is on her property. It is a bit of an eyesore…
